Welcome

I am a Full Professor in the Computer Science Department, Faculty of Automation and Computer Science, Technical University of Cluj-Napoca, Romania, and lead the Distributed Systems Research Laboratory (DSRL). I received my habilitation in 2019, with the thesis "Efficient Management of Resources in Large-Scale Distributed Systems", and have the right to supervise and mentor PhD students in the field of computer science.

My research interests include AI and foundation models, digital twins, large-scale distributed systems, cloud-edge computing, and multidisciplinary optimization. I focus on intelligent resource management and optimization of distributed and cyber-physical systems, with emphasis on energy efficiency, sustainability, and reduced carbon footprint. Recent work explores foundation models, AI agents, and digital twins for management of smart grids, data centers, and edge-cloud infrastructures. More details are on the research page.

I have led and managed multiple Horizon Europe research projects, national research grants, and industry-funded contracts, coordinating multidisciplinary teams and research activities across academia and industry. I also serve on the advisory boards of several European research projects in the areas of energy and AI, contributing to their scientific direction, research strategy, and impact. See the projects page for details.

I have authored and co-authored numerous scientific papers published in high-quality international journals and leading conferences, covering AI and big data, distributed systems, IoT, and optimization. My publications address both fundamental and applied aspects, considering smart energy grids, data centers, or healthcare as use cases. A selection is available on the publications page.

My teaching activities address disciplines closely related to distributed systems: programming techniques, distributed systems, blockchain, edge-fog-cloud, and big data analytics.
